Keepsake Workshop

Three small machines have stopped. Open each one, work out what went wrong, and put it back on the display shelf running.

Return to fair

Untimed, 3 to 6 minutes. One player. Makers and shops are invented for this prototype, and scores stay on this device.

How to play

Restore all three keepsakes to complete the shelf. Nothing here is timed, and there are no wrong moves, only informative ones.

  1. Open and look. Tap the case, then read parts and engravings with the loupe. Some engravings are hidden under broken parts and name the part you need.
  2. Work in order. Parts sit on top of each other. You can’t clean what a gear is sitting on, and a cover blocks everything inside.
  3. Fit parts. Pick a part from the tray. Posts it fits glow gold. Bore shapes must match, and size changes how the machine runs.
  4. Test. The mechanism runs as far as it can, then stops where the trouble is. Failed tests cost nothing.

Points

Keyboard

Tab or arrow keys move between spots, Enter uses what is in hand. L loupe, P tweezers, C cloth, O oil, K turn key, 1–9 tray parts, Esc put down. T test, U undo, H hint. Letter and number keys work while focus is on the keepsake, a tool, a part or a bench button, and each press does one thing.

These are storybook machines. Please don’t use anything here as advice for repairing a real one.
